Reconsider the mission. It starts with “Go”

Posted on by admin

Jesus gave one final command his disciples(you and me) in Matthew 28 before leaving earth: “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.”

You and I have been given an order….Instructions from our King. He tells us to go, make, baptize and teach disciples the commands given to us.

It’s gets easy for us to lean onto the missionaries and leaders of the church to carry the weight of this command. Sometimes it’s easier to just donate at a mission fundraiser or pray for those that go. Don’t get me wrong these things are important! But our lives get filled up fast with things and obligations that we leave little or no time to do what we’ve been commanded by our Master. “Go.” I’d like to encourage you to reconsider.

Reconsider the mission and ask yourself how you can play a part in it.

Here’s how we can help:

Foundations has multiple opportunities where you can begin this journey and start living this journey with other young adults.

RADICALIS 8/11 – 8/13: A preparation for mission. Radicalis is a college and young adult festival for 3 days in Auguest. There will be worship, teaching, sports, arts, and camping. It’s kinda like Woodstock, but with a different mission. Foundations and Crux34 are teaming up with Saddleback church to help equip a generation of disciples on mission. The event is at Rancho Capistano just south of Laguna Niguel off the 5 freeway. Go to www.Radicalis.com for more details. I have tickets in hand for $25!(this covers all 3 days), just stop by the booth on Sunday or message me. They are $45 at the door. Worship and Teaching by Phil Wickham and Rick Warren + many more.

MEXICO: 9/30 – 10/2 Join us as we drive to Ensenada and build a home for a family. Eighteen of us made the trip last year and were blessed beyond measure. Passports are required. Now is a good time to get the process going. The trip itself will cost you very little $. Praise report – A men’s bible study came to me and said they’d fund the entire project. They asked if I’d round up the people to go. Ummm, yes please!

Apartment Life: Fall/Winter Statistics show that only about 5% apartment tenants are connected into a church. Apartment Life partners with the local church to help solve this issue and to advance the Gospel. Foundations is inviting two of it’s members(2 singles or 1 couple) to work with Apartment life and begin building community within the apartment complex. The “Cares” team would be responsible creating community by holding events(BBQs, game nights, etc) and personal time with the tenants. This ultimately could lead to strong relationships and an opportunities to live out and share the Gospel. There’s also huge benefits to the Cares team which I have not mentioned(resources, financially, etc). I currently have interest from one single male and am looking for 1 more and/or a married couple. If you are interested in knowing more, let me know and I can fill you in over coffee.

Haiti Men’s trip: TBD(late Nov or early Dec) We are continuing to build strong relationships and share God’s Good news with the people of Haiti. It’s the trip that is creating a ripple effect of passion across the Crossline youth and young adults. Now it’s the men’s turn. More details will come soon.

There’s a lot going on!

Matthew 9:38 says “So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask Him to send more workers into His fields.”

Reconsider the mission. I’m praying for more workers and that you’d consider engaging into mission with us. The Lord is going to accomplish His will with or without us, but it’s so much better when we join Him in His journey. Yes, even YOU can play a part and make a difference!

Alongside you,

Matt

Loft House details

We are super excited to announce our first weekend missions trip to Mexico…O-del-ay!!!

In September, Foundations Young Adults Ministry will be heading to Ensenada, Mexico and building a loft house for a family in need of a home.  Many mission trips are typically 7+ days which make it a little more difficult to get away; however, this is a short weekend trip(Friday-Sunday) for those who have tighter schedules and have been itching to serve!  If you’ve been looking for a way to get to know others young people from Crossline, here’s your chance!

the scoop:

We’ll be leaving(carpooling) from Crossline on Friday, 9/17/10 at 10am and returning on Sunday afternoon 9/19/10.  While in Mexico, we will be meeting with the family, painting and building their home, spending time in prayer and worship, sharing the love of Christ, eating plenty of tacos, and creating ever-lasting friendships.

The law now says that you MUST have a passport in order to get back into the country.  Unless you are planning for a one-way trip to Mexico, this is muy importante!  Most post offices offer passport services, but you may want to call first.  Application rates do go up this Tuesday 7/13!  Passports can take a month or 2 to process if not expedited so it needs to be ordered ahora(now).  More passport questions can be answered here: http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/get_4855.html

Here’s your out of pocket commitment:  Passport costs(unless you already have one), $22 registration fee, $ for 3 meals(lots of tacos), and $ to pitch in towards gas for carpooling.

The $22 registration fee covers 1 meal + 2 nights stay in a similar loft house like the one we’re building… how cool is that?

There will be room for about 20 people(guys and girls) to attend the trip.  We currently have 8 spots filled.

importante dates:

8/1/10 – Sign up deadline (if all spots fill up first, we will close registration)
Fundraising Day at Crossline – Tacos stand!

9/11/10 – Prefabrication of loft house at Crossline; this is open to entire church body

9/17 – 9/19 – Foundations goes to Mexico!

i’m in! what do i need to do?

Register now while spots are open.  If you do not have a passport but know you are going, complete the registration to hold your spot.  Here’s the registration link:  http://foundationsya.eventbrite.com/

Amigos & amigas: If you are interested in going, please, please, please do not assume there will be spots open and wait until the last minute… there’s not that many open spots to begin with.

If you are interested in donating items to a care package we are providing the family, please see the list here:  https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0ArPHlAUHGCkddHlUNExGbVkydjRKa05OUzBtZXVCM1E&hl=en&authkey=CMLGkucN

Can’t wait to serve alongside ya!

Today’s Young Adult

A recent study from the Pew Forum showed quite a few statistics from the “Millennial generation” (ages 18-29).

Here are a few:

  • Less than 20% Young Adults attend church
  • 75% believe in an afterlife
  • 79% believe in miracles
  • 33% attend a religious service weekly
  • 27% read scripture weekly
  • The amount of young adults unaffiliated with any type of religion has nearly doubled since the 1980′s.

Foundations is a ministry that aims to shape the Young Adult’s identity.  We are a community of Christ followers looking to build a foundation on God so we are prepared and equipped for the rest of our lives.  Are you in?
